COVID-19 WestJet operations and network update - dated March 16/20:

On Sunday, March 22 at 11:59 p.m. MDT, WestJet will suspend scheduled commercial operations for all international and transborder flights for a 30 day period. To be clear, this means our final commercially scheduled flights from international and transborder destinations will launch on Sunday night by 11:59 p.m. local time. 

 On Wednesday, March 18 at 11:59 p.m. MDT, WestJet will suspend all outbound international ticket sales for travel until Sunday, March 22 at 11:59 p.m. MDT

In addition, we will also reduce our domestic schedule by approximately 50 per cent. At this point, all network changes are in place for the next 30 days.

Please also be aware that as of March 18/20, the Canadian Government has declared that only Canadian citizens, permanent residents or Americans will be allowed entry in to the Canada. International flights will be permitted to land only at the international airports in Montreal, Toronto, Calgary and Vancouver. 

Flight listing policy and procedures:

MyIDTravel Carriers - All ticketing, listing, changes and cancellations must be processed via myIDTravel. Tickets are refundable up to one year from issue date.

Boarding policy

When there are two or more interline employees travelling on the same flight, the time of check-in at the station where you are boarding your flight will determine the onload/offload order.

Check-in times

Within Canada  - Airport check in up to 3 hours in advance. Check in must be completed 60 minutes before scheduled departure times.

Any Transborder – Airport check in up to 3 hours in advance.  Check in must be completed 2 hours prior to scheduled departure time.

Baggage

It is a Transport Canada requirement for checked baggage to be transported with a guest on the same flight for any transborder or international flight.  On a domestic routing, if you are bumped from a flight, your baggage may travel ahead of you.

Checked baggage exceeding the weight, size and/or number of pieces per guest are subject to fees as well as space and weight availability for transport.

Baggage will be checked to the WestJet final destination or the approved interline final destination as indicated on the guest's itinerary.

Checked Baggage Dimensions:

Each guest is permitted to check one piece of baggage at no charge providing the items meet the following size and weight allowance:

  • WestJet and WestJet Encore accept bags up to 157 cm (62") in combined dimension (length + width + height), and 23 kg (50 lb.).

Carry On Baggage:

  • One free piece of carry-on baggage and one personal item per guest in a paid seat.
  • Maximum size carry on 53 cm x 23 cm x38 cm (21"x 9" x 15" )
  • Maximum size personal item 41 cm x 15 cm x 33 cm (16" x 6" x 13")

 

Child/Infant Baggage Allowance

Lap Held Infant

  • Two pieces of infant equipment (e.g. infant restraint system, playpen or stroller) are permitted at no charge.

Fare Paying child/infant

  • One piece of child/infant equipment (e.g. approved restraint system, playpen or stroller) will be permitted at no charge in addition to the checked baggage allowance
