Introduction

  • Below please find a summary of relevant information related to ID travel on flights operated by Canadian North (5T).  The employee is responsible for ensuring that any of his/her eligible persons traveling under staff travel agreements are aware of all the requirements that apply to standby travel.  Any reference to employee below shall be deemed to include eligible persons where applicable.  Employees are responsible for checking the below information before travel.
  • From our gateway cities of Edmonton and Ottawa, fly to/from major centers in NWT and Nunavet: Yellowknife, Inuvik, Cambridge Bay, Norman Wells and Iqaluit.  For a complete list of our destinations please reference Canadian North website www.canadiannorth.com.

  • Listing is required on all Canadian North flights.  Listing is automatic when utilizing the myIDTravel website.

Visas and Passports and API

  • Please remember that for international travel, each passenger must have a valid passport, relevant visas for the destination and for scheduled points en route, in case off-loading becomes necessary.

Checked baggage

  • Other airline passengers are allowed to check one piece of baggage at a maximum of 50 lbs (23 kgs).
  • 5T current/retired employees, eligible spouses/travel partners, children and parents/parents in-law allowed two pieces of baggage free of charge. Guests are allowed 1 piece of bagge free of charge. 
  • Collapsible stroller, car seat and/or walker may be checked in at no additional charge.
  • All pass travellers are subject to the same restrictions and fees as revenue passengers regarding over-sized and/or overweight baggage. Reference www.canadiannorth.com for more information.
  • All pass travellers must supply their own kennels for live animals and pets.  Normal fees and criteria apply. Reference www.canadiannorth.com for further information.
  • All checked baggage must have identification on the outside. A duplicate ID tag is also recommended for the inside of each checked piece of baggage.
  • Claims for damaged, delayed or lost baggage will be processed in the same manner as regular fare-paying passengers.
  • Travel pass holders should be aware that at times their baggage may be loaded only if space permits and may not necessarily be loaded on the same flight.
  • Pass travelers should avoid the use of overhead bins, leaving them free for revenue customers.  Carry-on baggage should be of a size that permits under seat stowage.

Cabin baggage

  • Canadian North is required to enforce carry-on baggage size restrictions, as per Transport Canada regulations.  A cabin baggage size unit is available at check-in to ensure that your carry-on(s) fit in the allotted space:

      Total space per passenger:

  • Two pieces not to exceed 9 inches by 16 inches by 22.5 inches each.

Check-in times

  • Passengers must be checked in at least 120 minutes before the scheduled departure time.
  • Passengers may use web check-in
  • Standby passengers may not use kiosks.

Through check-in

  • Through check-in is available for standby (or "space available") passengers.  
  • Standby passengers "bumped" enroute will not be entitled to compensation.

Dress code

  • In general a neat, clean and well-groomed appearance is required while traveling on reduced rate passes on Canadian North.  It is recognized that styles change and that individuals will have their own opnion of what is acceptable.  However, Canadian North requests that all contingent passengers, their spouses and dependants, dress in a manner tha tis conservative and in good tast.  Clean jeans are acceptable. 
  • The dress code below does not state what should be worn but rather what is unacceptable.  Dress cannot be altered in flight.

      Clothing

  • beach clothing, sports attire including sweat pants, jogging suits, rugby pants or work-out clothing
  • tank-tops, t-shirts, sweatshirts, muscle or aloha shirts
  • shorts, leggings, very short mini shirts (including skorts and culottes)
  • attire, which is revealing, tigh fitting, see-throuh or exposes the midriff
  • must be clean and in good condition with no holes, patches, frays or jagged edges

      Footwear

  • beach wears, including flip-flops
  • very casual sandles (i.e. cork/foam/plastic/wood soles)
  • men's shoes without socks
  • must be clean and in good condition
  • Children (under 12) should be well groomed and well dressed in clothing suitable for travel.

Live Animals

  • Customers travelling with live animals (PETC/AVIH) must supply their own kennels. Kennels are in addition to carry-on and checked baggage allowances and rebate passengers are subject to the same charges and carriage rules as for revenue passengers. Special Meals

  • It is not possible to pre-book special meals for rebate passengers.  Therefore you and/or your eligible nominees, who for any reason require a special diet, must provide your own food, in sufficient quantities to last for the duration of the flight.

Seat Requests

  • Seat requests are not permitted on Staff Travel.  If the flight is open, the check-in agent may ask if you want an aisle or a window seat, but this depends on availability.
  • Even if you are assigned a specific seat at check-in, this may be changed to accommodate commercial requirements.
  • Please note that staff passengers must comply with requests from 5T check-in staff, cabin crew, and flight crew, and must change seats if asked.

Unaccompanied Minors

  • Children under 16 years cannot travel on a rebate ticket unless accompanied by an adult traveling on the same type of rebate ticket.

Other

  • Customers traveling with infants may check-in a car seat and a fully collapsible stroller at no additional charge
  • Oversize baggage with linear dimensions (length + width + height) of 158 to 292 cms is subject to a $100.00 excess charge, amount subject to change.
  • Any pieces over 45 kgs or measuring more than 292 cms will not be accepted as checked baggage. Please make arrangements to ship through cargo.
